AVENUE
fill in – International Jazz Festival Saar is more than just a three-day jazz festival. fill in aims to bring jazz to the greater region of SaarLorLux through a wide range of events. Alongside the festival at the end of June, fill in AVENUE is a key component of the festival programme.
Every spring, AVENUE kicks off the festival season in the alleyway in front of the old bus depot in the Eurobahnhof district.In cooperation with GIU – Gesellschaft für Innovation und Unternehmensförderung mbH, fill in is organising a colourful street festival with free live music, street food, market stalls and a children’s programme.
AVENUE is a gift to the people of this city, an opportunity to get to know jazz, enjoy spring, simply meet up and soak up the sun with a good glass of wine or a beer.

The festival then kicks off the evening before with fill-in gigs in bars and clubs. It’s the grand opening night at St. Johanner Markt in Saarbrücken, where students and graduates of the jazz programme at the Saar University of Music (HfM SAAR) will transform the city’s ‘living room’ into an open-air jazz club.We then move to the E-Werk for three days and turn the old industrial hall into a hotspot for the European jazz scene. World stars of the genre and up-and-coming talents have been invited by artistic director Oliver Strauch to present a wide variety of jazz.
In recent years, stars such as John Scofield, Anne Paceo, Kenny Garrett, Billy Cobham, Camille Bertault and the Brussels Jazz Orchestra and Zara McFarlane, Emmet Cohen, Curtis Stigers have been guests.

And time and again, fill in also organises concerts outside of AVENUE and FESTIVAL. In 2024, for example, in Saarlouis, where fill in spent two days as a guest on the Vaubaninsel and offered high-calibre jazz free of charge with Thomas Siffling and Marcel Loeffler. And in November 2024, Jan Garbarek performed with Trilok Gurtu at the Stadthalle St. Ingbert. In 2026 we will be at Bostalsee on 31 July and 1 august 2026. On 24 October Francesca Tandoi Trio will held a concert in St. Ingbert.
