AVENUE
fill in – International Jazz Festival Saar ist mehr als nur ein dreitägiges Jazzfestival. fill in möchte den Jazz mit vielen Veranstaltungen in die Großregion tragen. Neben dem Festival Ende Juni ist fill in AVENUE ein wesentlicher Pfeiler des Festivalreigens.
Jährlich im Frühjahr eröffnet AVENUE die Festivalsaison in der Gasse vor der alten Buswerkstatt im Quartier am Eurobahnhof.In cooperation with GIU – Gesellschaft für Innovation und Unternehmensförderung mbH, fill in is organising a colourful street festival with free live music, street food, market stalls and a children’s programme.
AVENUE is a gift to the people of this city, an opportunity to get to know jazz, enjoy spring, simply meet up and soak up the sun with a good glass of wine or a beer.

Das Festival startet dann am Vorabend mit fill in Bars & Clubs. Es ist der große Eröffnungsabend am St. Johanner Markt in Saarbrücken, bei dem Studierende und Absolvent:innen des Jazz-Studienganges der Hochschule für Musik Saar (HfM SAAR) die „gute Stube“ der Stadt in einen Freiluft-Jazzclub verwandeln.We then move to the E-Werk for three days and turn the old industrial hall into a hotspot for the European jazz scene. World stars of the genre and up-and-coming talents have been invited by artistic director Oliver Strauch to present a wide variety of jazz.
In recent years, stars such as John Scofield, Anne Paceo, Kenny Garrett, Billy Cobham, Camille Bertault and the Brussels Jazz Orchestra and Zara McFarlane have been guests.
And time and again, fill in also organises concerts outside of AVENUE and FESTIVAL. In 2024, for example, in Saarlouis, where fill in spent two days as a guest on the Vaubaninsel and offered high-calibre jazz free of charge with Thomas Siffling and Marcel Loeffler. And in November 2024, Jan Garbarek performed with Trilok Gurtu at the Stadthalle St. Ingbert. Such concerts are also planned for 2025.
